St. Joseph’s General Hospital – Elliot Lake, Ontario

St. Joseph’s General Hospital (SJGHEL) is seeking Hospitalist Physicians to join a collaborative and well-supported inpatient care team. Two hospitalists are scheduled each week, providing comprehensive care for admitted patients in a community hospital setting with strong nursing, interdisciplinary, and visiting specialist support.

Clinical Responsibilities

• One-week Hospitalist blocks with two hospitalist physicians scheduled per week
• Average daily census of approximately 18–19 patients per physician; high census may reach 25–27 patients per physician
• Daytime rounding from approximately 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Night coverage is primarily phone-based, with physicians expected to attend the hospital when necessary
• Admissions are evenly divided between the two hospitalists
• Daily rapid rounds at 10:00 AM with nursing and both hospitalists
• Thursday evening patient report with handover at 8:00 AM Friday

Qualifications

• Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
• Eligible for hospital privileges at St. Joseph’s General Hospital
• Commitment to collaborative, team-based inpatient care

Practice Environment

• MEDITECH Expanse EMR, shared with other Northeast regional hospitals; training available
• Access to visiting specialists including Urology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Nephrology, Psychiatry, ENT, Orthopaedics, and Ophthalmology

Compensation & Incentives

• Hospitalist stipend plus OHIP Fee-for-Service billings
• Competitive recruitment incentives available

• May be eligible for Northern Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative (NRRRI): approximately $118,000 over four years (Year 1 – 40%; Years 2 and 3 – 15% each; Year 4 – 30%)
