Markdale Hospital is a modern rural facility that opened in 2023 and is located in the heart of Grey Highlands, a growing region known for its scenic beauty and outdoor lifestyle. The hospital serves a broad rural catchment and is well-integrated with local primary care and community health programs.

Key Features:

• 15,884 Emergency Department visits annually (~43 visits/day)
• 8-bed inpatient unit
• Core services include: Emergency Department, Inpatient Care, Family Practice, Long-Term Care, Palliative Care, Home Visits, Medical Education, Community Health Centre (CHC) programs and outreach

Markdale Hospital works in close collaboration with primary care providers and local CHC teams to deliver holistic, patient-centred care that supports both acute and preventative health needs.

Brightshores Health System is expanding its Rural Emergency Medicine physician group and is currently seeking physicians to join the team at Markdale Hospital. Qualifications

Applicants must hold:

• FRCPC in Emergency Medicine, CCFP(EM), or CCFP (Family Medicine) and eligible for independent practice in Ontario through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
• Note: American Board-certified candidates are eligible for independent licensing in Ontario provided they are in good standing with their current area of practice; ask for more information about expedited licensing pathways
• Equivalent international training in Emergency Medicine and, where applicable, eligibility to sit the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) examination in Emergency Medicine or the College of Family Physicians of Canada examinations, as required for requisite provincial medical licensing

Compensation, Incentives and Supports

• Emergency Department Alternate Funding Agreement compensation model includes competitive compensation including hourly stipend (~$200 to $260 per hour) plus percentage of fee for service billings (OHIP)
• Local rural emergency medicine incentive funding also applicable across our hospitals
• Immigration support provided, as applicable
• Monthly travel allowance of $1,200 also provided to support accommodation and/or other transportation needs
