Locum Emergency Physician Opportunity

Looking for a locum opportunity that offers a manageable ED volume, a supportive team and the flexibility to choose when you work?

St. Joseph’s General Hospital (SJGHEL) welcomes Locum Emergency Physicians to join our collaborative Emergency Department team in Elliot Lake. With approximately 30–40 patient visits per 24 hours, this is a rewarding rural Emergency Medicine opportunity with time to enjoy everything the community has to offer.

Clinical Responsibilities & Department Highlights

• Approximately 30–40 Emergency Department visits per 24 hours
• Flexible locum coverage based on availability
• Mix of 12- and 24-hour shifts
• Single physician coverage overnight (10:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m.)
• Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant support
• Collaborative physician and interdisciplinary team
• 24/7 Hospitalist coverage for admitted patients

Qualifications

• Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
• Certification in Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM, FRCPC), or Family Physicians with Emergency Department experience
• Eligible for hospital privileges at St. Joseph’s General Hospital
• Commitment to collaborative, team-based care

Compensation & Locum Support

• Emergency Department Alternate Funding Arrangement (EDAFA)
• Shadow billing (~37%)
• May be eligible for Northern Specialist Locum Programs (NSLP)
