St. Joseph's General Hospital in beautiful Elliot Lake, Ontario, is actively recruiting full-time and part-time Emergency Medicine Physicians to join our committed, collaborative clinical team.
Our Emergency Department (ED) is open 24/7 and manages approximately 17,000 visits annually, serving a regional catchment of over 18,000 residents. We offer a collegial work environment with access to on-site General Surgery and visiting specialists, making us a vital healthcare hub for the region.

Emergency Department Overview
- 30–60 patients per 24-hour shift.
- Day shift: 20–40 patients.
- Night shift: 15–20 patients (typically 4 or fewer after 11:00 p.m.)
- Major trauma is rare; many patients are elderly with complex comorbidities.
- An average of 4–6 admissions per shift, handed over to Hospitalists (0800–2000); ED physician covers overnight until 0800 handover.
- On-site access to Lab, X-ray, CT, and Ultrasound, with 7-day availability and overnight on-call support.
- ED team includes Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Physician Assistants (PAs), Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and ward clerks to support efficient patient flow.
