Overview
Emergency Department P/T or F/T Physician Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus is recruiting both part-time and full-time ER Physicians. We are located approximately 20 mins from Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo (our main referral centres) and 60 mins from the GTA. Our ED is supported by a robust group of local GPs with Anesthesia, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Gynecology consultants available. We offer X-ray, Ultrasound, Lab, and CT scans on site. Our ED volumes are approximately 60-80 visits/day.
Practice Details
Scheduling is flexible and we offer competitive AFA hourly rates plus shadow billings. HOCC funding is also available for those wishing to provide on-call support. We do not require FRCP/CCFP-EM, although you should be comfortable with rural Emergency Medicine. ACLS/ATLS are required (NRP/PALS is encouraged).
Financial Incentives
ER Physicians are eligible for the following Financial Incentives:
Groves Hospital ER Physician Return of Service:
- Full-time ER physicians will receive $40,000 for 4-year return of service
- Full-time hours are defined as of 1,440 hours/year of clinical work
OH Emergency Department (ED) Mentorship Program:
- The ED Mentorship Program is designed to promote the integration of community-based family practitioners into local EDs. Funding is provided for up to four months upon commencement in the ED Mentorship Program.
- Physician Mentorship Eligibility Criteria:
- Valid CPSO Number.
- Valid OHIP Billing Number.
- Have not previously participated in the ED Mentorship Program.
- Have not worked in any Ontario ED hospital within the past year.
Restricted Registration Program (https://restrictedregistrationontario.ca/healthcare-sites/)
- Restricted Registration refers to the conditions placed on a medical Resident's CPSO registration when:
- they are in a postgraduate medical education program leading to certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada and;
- provide clinical services for remuneration outside of their residency program.
- Residents actively engaged in an accredited residency training program at an Ontario School of Medicine are eligible to take part in the RR Program.
- Through the restricted registration program Residents can:
- Gain valuable experience in a variety of practice settings
- Build confidence to ease the transition to practice
- Earn extra income

Emergency Department Funding
- ED Surge and Mentorship Programs available: Hourly rate ranging from $200-260/hour (depends on the overall level of acuity during the shift)
- ER Physicians also shadow bill 25% (50% for holidays) of the patients seen
- ER Physicians who provide a 4-year commitment to our community will be offered a substantial retention bonus of $40,000/year.
